Is Humidity Dangerous?
Humidity is a very natural thing caused by the presence of moisture in the air. Many states have naturally humid climates, especially in warmer areas further south (while colder climates tend to be more arid). This is because of the increased capacity for moisture that warm air has. So, while humidity can present risks, it would not be fair to say that it is actively dangerous in any real sense. Instead, it is important to note that certain levels of humidity are not ideal inside a home for a number of reasons.
One of the biggest risks of a consistently humid environment in a home is the formation of mold and wood rot fungi. These substances can be dangerous to your health and the structure of your home as a whole, causing things like rashes, infections, and structural deterioration or collapse.
As well as these more serious repercussions, humidity also can have some less severe side effects that will nonetheless impact you and the climate in your Charlotte property. For example, humid air is much harder to process than arid air, which means that your HVAC system will have to work harder to get the same results. This will lead to fluctuations in temperature, reduced energy efficiency, and increases in the energy costs you can expect to face. While these issues are not dangerous, they are inconvenient and unpleasant, and they can lead to avoidable breakdowns in your property’s HVAC system and appliances, as the environment becomes more and more corrosive to metal or organic material.
