Barry called Dry-Pro because he wanted an energy efficient home. His mother lives in an older, historic home and crawl space encapsulation with dehumidification was requred in her home to prevent the return of fungal growth and rotting wood. One of the benefits that she was not expecting was a significant improvement in heating and cooling costs as well as general home comfort. That was the surprise, you might say, the unexpected "icing on the cake". Barry was so pleased with what had happened at his mothers home that he wanted to have this system installed in his new home so that he could experience the energy saving benefits. He had worked with Dry-Pro in having his mothers home improved and called us back out to improve his home.
The inspection of Barry's crawl space showed a crawl space that was in fairly decent condition. At times, the humidity is elevated, ground water entry was not a problem along the exterior foundation walls or interior of the crawl space. His insulation was in acceptable condition and he was not experincing heavy mold and fungal growth. The crawl space did have a bit of debris on the ground but Dry-Pro cleans and removes incedental debris as a part of all of our encapsulated crawl spaces to deliver the best outcome for our clients.
Barry was VERY specific about the improvements that he wanted in his crawl space. He didn't wait for me to offer my plan, he told me what my plan would include and how it would be done. I agreed with his plan so we moved forward working out details. He requested a full 20 mil CleanSpace encapsulation. He let me know that he wanted a PERFECT crawl space clean out before the installation began. He knew a few tricks about crawl space encapsulation himself. Berry is a VERY sharp guy and wanted to be in control of his crawl space repair plan. He knew to review and verify my plan to make sure that should a pipe burst, the water would be able to escape his crawl space. He had been led to believe (by other crawl space companies) that a sump pump at the lowest location in the crawl space was a code compliance matter. He had been given innacurate information. At DryPro, as a state licensed NC and SC General Contractor we are constantly maintaining and updating our knowledge base on current Building Code as well as best practices in our industry. Dry-Pro was able to install a gravity fed release drain that meets building code and would allow water from broken or burst pipes to naturally flow out of the encapsulated crawl space at a significant cost savings as well as utilizing a system that avoided the need for additional electricity and dependence on a mechanical pump in a situation where it was not required for the best outcome.. If Barry's crawl space had a ground water or water entry proplem, I would have encouraged him to install a full perimeter drain and sump system using the SuperSump. He did not have any water entry problems so in his case it may have been wasteful to include those additional items and costs.
On my first visit to meet with Barry, he warned me that he would be the most demanding customer that I would deal with. Barry let me know that he wanted this done right and in a specific way, but he was not the most demanding customer that I ever dealt with. He was very clear in his desires and expectations. That made it easy for the team that I work with at Dry-Pro to prepare for Barry and his crawl space project. Barry's project was completed a few weeks ago and I wanted to touch base with him when I was able to find a couple of free minutes. I called hi and asked if we had delivered on EVERYTHING that I had told him that we would do. Barry's response was a joy for me to hear. He told me that he was 150% satisfied. He told me about how the crew that did his project were EXCELLENT. Adam pre inspected his project and worked hard to understand his expectations and help prepare the crew to meet those expectations. Cory, Travis and Reed worked diligently to delever great results. He now considers all of them as personal friends. He was so happy with them that he bought a sweet potato pie for them and gave each of them a generous tip (No, tipping is NEVER expected or desired) he was just so pleased he wanted to show his gratitude. He was amazed with the energy improvements that he experienced (energy efficiency was his goal). The weekend after the work was completed a polar vortex type cold front descended on our area. The furnace barely ran. The home and floors stayed warm and comfortable. The crawl space stayed warm and dry. The relative humidity in both the home and crawl space hovered around 50% throughout the cold weather. The furnace went hours (as opposed to what would have been minutes in the past) without running at all. Barry got the result that he wanted and better. He loved his crew and the team at Dry-Pro. Barry is happy, I am happy, best of all? His home is going to be a very comfortable place to live for years to come.
Bill was concerned about the state of his mother's house. It's 37 years old and he noticed that there was mold and moisture in the crawlspace. He wanted someone from our team to go do an inspection to see if there's anything else that the house needs repairs on.
One of our inspection specialists went to look at the house and found that there was some water and wood rot. He also noticed there was a lot of mold.
