Snow in the Carolinas and what it does to your Basement

Melting snow in the Charlotte area creates its own problems for basements. When the ground temperature drops below freezing, the melting snow near your home only has one place to go - toward your basement wall where it can seep through your foundation.

Gutters and downspouts can freeze resulting in melting snow and water cascading over the gutters and ending up at your homes foundation. Good grading is necessary to keep melting snow away from the foundation - the frozen ground cannot absorb the water. De-icing cables near the edge of the roof and in the gutters and downspouts can prevent ice build-up and also help move run off away from the home. Make sure that snow never gets piled up against your house. Make sure the basement sump pump discharges properly (this includes making sure the line doesn’t have any low areas for water to collect and freeze). A frozen sump pump discharge pipe can create a flood in your basement. At Dry-Pro we can keep the snow run off outside where it belongs. Get a basement waterproofing inspection today.
